This is the Buddhism symbol. I think religion played a huge role in China's son because Da was treated the way he was due to his religion. Religion is a huge issue in many countries today. Da was also treated horribly because his father was the son of a landlord. Da's mother taught him to beg Buddha for his protection and help. In Buddhism you needed to wash yourself really clean, button your buttons, get on your knees, and bang your head on the floor before the hidden shrine of the Buddha (pg.6). I think the most important message Da heard from his mother was to "Ask all you want to ask and you will be answered." Da followed his mother to the shrine every day because religion was not allowed in Communist China. I think the Buddha gave Da life and hope. The Buddha will always be there.
I also think education changed Da's future. Professor Wei taught Da to become an outstanding student. After the words of Da's grandparents he would no give up. Da ended up going to Beijing Languages Institute's English department. Da was the first one in the history of Yellow Stone HIgh to do so. Da was leaving a legacy to be filled behind. Da was going to cherish the precious moments of Yellow Stone, the Dong Jing River, and the Ching Mountain. Da will always remember this one line, " Good-bye, Yellow Stone. I am forever your son (pg.212).

Most Important Passages
There aren't too many passages that are important because the book is about his whole life growing up. To get important things that happen in the book, you have to read through the whole thing to understand what is happening. Other than that here are some passages that I think are important.
-"One day when I was about six I stood on the pavement watching a parade of Red Gaurds carrying their rifles and red flags and shouting slogans, when a kid from next door, for no obvious reason smacked me right in the face and kicked me when I fell." This is important because it shows that his family is not respected at all where they live.
-"On the ninth day of the ninth month of1976, Chairman Mao died an ordinary man." This is important because it shows Da might have hope in his life.
-"I love you, Dad. I am your son forever." This is when Da is going off to college and he is saying goodbye to his dad. It is important because it shows Da loves his family and his family is happy for him.

The main character of this book is Da Chen. Da and his family have to live very rough lives because Da's father is the son of a landlord. In my opinion he was sort of unlucky to be related to land lords at this time in China's history because at this time it was the cultural revolution and the Communist that were leading it did not like the land lords because they thought that the poor should be repaid by the landlords and the land divided equally. The boys in Da's village threw stones at his house, made ugly faces at him and called his family names. It was also hard for Da to get a good education, because the government believed that the land lords and their family's had had enough education and that if was time for the poor to get their education. In the times that Da went to elementary and middle school, even the teachers hated him and put him in the bottom of the lowest class even though he deserved to be at the head of the really smart class. At the end of the book Da and his brother got a chance to register for Collage regardless of his family's past because the Cultural Revolution ended. In this book the main character Da and his family win their struggle to have a brighter future.
Da's traits
he's very smart and when the original teachers were at his school, he was the head of the smart class, he also scored as one of the highest on his test to get into collage.
he also knows how to survive trough the rough times
he's good at helping his friends gamble

There aren't many connectons between China's Son and Animal Farm. The connections are, they're both about communism and they both have something to do with education. For example, in the blurb of China's Son it says, "... communist china..." Then, in Animal Farm, animalism is the same thing as communism. Also, in the blurb of China's Son it says, "... education was once again possible..." In Animal Farm, the animals have to learn how to read and write.
